Most of us know that a drone or UAV (an unmanned aerial vehicle) is a remotely controlled aircraft without a human pilot on board, and that they are being used to improve safety, efficiency and productivity.

More uses for UAVs

In recent years drones have become more reliable, less expensive, more stable and easier to control. Multirotor and fixed wing, camera-mounted drones are used increasingly in mapping, mining, aerial surveillance and construction.

Nowdays most drones are controlled by iPad, connected by Wi-Fi or 4G, and positioned by GPS

The main advantages are work safety, cost-effectiveness and carbon emissions reduction whilst obtaining real time data on progress, and identifying potential hazards and quality issues fast. And of course drones are incomparably cheaper than helicopters and small planes whilst being invaluable for asset inspections and aerial imagery.
Land surveying can be done in hours rather than days so that essential tasks that often cost thousands of dollars can be accomplished at a fraction of the cost.

A drone following a programmed path at 55 to 65 kmph can document a 65 hectare site in about 40 minutes on one battery charge. Video information provides data as soon as it is captured, this means that companies that use drones have a great advantage over those that don’t.

A company that shows its clients 3D models, topo maps, accurate resource predictions and annotated surveys has a definite advantage over one showing only basic satellite imagery.

With an average 20-30 minutes flight time per battery charge, a drone goes into automatic return-to-home mode when the battery is low
