CASA’s new safety measure comes into effect from 1 July 2021
The Australian Government announced in its Budget Statement 2021/2022 the introduction of an annual registration levy from 1 July 2021 for any drones or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) flown for business or as part of your job.
At the beginning of the year, CASA introduced new mandatory registrations of any drones or RPAs flown for any type of services as part of a business or part of your job. The registration is free for any drone or RPA registered before 30 June 2021 and is valid for 12 months.
From 1 July 2021, an annual registration levy for commercially operated drones or RPAs will be applied. All drones or RPAs weighing less than 500g, will be required to registered but there will be no fees charged; and for those drones or RPAs weighing more than 500g an annual registration fee of AUD $40.00 per drone will come into effect. All drones and RPAs currently registered and those registered prior to 1 July 2021 will not be charged for the remainder of the registration term.
