Transforming Transport Infrastructure Inspections

Transforming Transport Infrastructure Inspections

Maintaining the integrity and safety of roads, bridges, and railways is paramount. At Air Inspect Australia, we harness the power of aerial and ground imagery, to capture high-resolution data and provide comprehensive visualisations, revolutionising the way transport infrastructure inspections are conducted.

Drones and ground equipment with sophisticated imaging and sensing technologies, offer unparalleled advantages in inspecting transport infrastructure. By capturing high-resolution imagery and data, it would enable detailed inspections of hard-to-reach areas without the need for extensive scaffolding or traffic disruptions and facilitate a more thorough and efficient assessment of infrastructure conditions.

Data Capture and Processing

At Air Inspect Australia, we deploy state-of-the-art drones such as the DJI Matrice 350 RTK, equipped with advanced sensors and cameras. These drones are capable of capturing high-definition images and videos, thermal imaging, and LiDAR data, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the inspected areas. The data collected is then processed using Bentley Reality Modeling Worksuite, which transforms raw data into detailed 3D meshmodels, point cloud and other useful visualisations.

Our one-day training courses for basic data processing and visualisation empower our clients to efficiently utilise this technology. Participants learn to convert drone-captured data into actionable insights, enabling quicker and more accurate decision-making.

Visualisation of Asset

Bentley Reality Modeling Worksuite contains an application called Reality Data Management which allows you to publish your processed data on to the cloud to manage and share reality data. You are able to better collaborate when you share visuals of 3D reality mesh data with your team.

Reality Data Management, a cloud-based service, extends Bentley’s ProjectWise connected data environment to securely manage, share, and stream reality meshes, and their input sources across project teams and applications increasing team productivity and collaboration.

Applications in Transport Infrastructure

Roads and Highways

Drones are instrumental in inspecting roads and highways, identifying issues such as surface degradation, cracks, and subsidence. They enable detailed surveys of large stretches of road, providing valuable data for maintenance planning and asset management.

Bridges

Bridge inspections traditionally require scaffolding, rope access, or even road closures. Drones, however, can easily access and inspect bridge structures, capturing detailed images of critical components such as beams, cables, and piers. This not only enhances safety but also reduces inspection times and associated costs.

Railways

For railway infrastructure, drones offer a safe and efficient means of inspecting tracks, overhead power lines, rail crossings and surrounding areas. High-resolution imagery, LiDAR and thermal data can detect issues like track misalignment, vegetation encroachment, line of sight and overheating components, ensuring timely maintenance and preventing disruptions.
